Troubleshooting Sodium Analyzer Problems

In this article, we will discuss troubleshooting sodium analyzer Problems. Sodium analyzer is the main analyzer which is commonly used process analyzer used mainly in knowing the quality of the water. Sodium analyzer is mainly used in water treatment plants like DM and CPU plants.

Troubleshooting Sodium Analyzer Common problems

We face many problems in the sodium analyzer. The problems are tabulated in the following diagram.

Troubleshooting Sodium Analyzer Problems

Let us see the detailed troubleshooting guidelines shown below for the sodium analyzer problems mentioned in the above chart.

Follow the below-mentioned troubleshooting steps to troubleshoot the Sodium Analyzer problems.

Follow below mentioned steps:

1. Sodium Analyzer in power off condition:

If the Sodium analyzer is in power off condition, then check the supply voltage on the field side. If supply voltage is ok, then the display can be faulty. Try replace the display unit. If the voltage is not present, then we need to check all the components of the power supply. We need to check the MCB and the fuse in the power supply line.

2. Sodium value mismatch in field and PLC/DCS

Many times, the range configured in the field device does not match with the range configured in the PLC/DCS. In this case, we need to make the range same on both sides. Always refer some standard document before changing the range on either side.

3. Sodium analyzer not showing proper value

  1. Verify the sample coming to the sodium analyzer from the field. Always maintain proper sample flow. Also, the pressure of the sample is very important. Ensure that the sample flow is stable.
  2. The sample to the Sodium analyzer should not be having air bubbles. Ensure no air bubbles are present in the sample of the Sodium analyzer.
  3. All the sample tubes should be leak free. Attend the tube leakage if any of the tube has leakages.
  4. The tubes can be found chocked from inside. Do forward flushing of the tube. Dechoking the tube using the pressure pump can be done if the flushing does not work. Use pressurized fluid with pressure of maximum 1.5 times than that of the process fluid.
  5. If the analyzer panel’s temperature is high, then any of the components can malfunction. Because of this malfunction, there may be wrong readings. So, give proper cooling to the sodium analyzer.
  6. Check the internal pumps in the sodium analyzer. If any of the pump is failed, then the analyzer will not work.
  7. Check the electrolyte’s level. If electrolyte is empty, then refill it.
  8. Check the inlet pH value. Maintain the pH value as per the analyzer requirement.
  9. Check the mA range or analog output range of the sodium analyzer.
  10. Check all the necessary configurations in the analyzer like LRV, URV, mA range, as per the data in the datasheet of the analyzer.

4. Sodium analyzer value fluctuating

  1. Any tube leakage will cause fluctuations in the reading. So, attend the tube leakage.
  2. Ensure the proper sample flow to the sodium analyzer. There should be no air bubbles in the sample flow.
  3. The sample flow should be steady with constant flow.
